After finding little success as Wild and Wandering, the band changed their name to Pop Will Eat Itself and began recording in earnest. The Poppies Say GRRR EP was issued on the band's own Desperate label, so named because they were desperate for a record contract! The tracks recorded in this era were lighter and less 'goth' than previously, with the band looking to short, spiky, guitar-fuelled pop songs to win them a record contract. And it worked.
